FLA
Bonjour grade 5s! It will be my pleasure to teach French Language
Art to you this year.
learning this year in FLA. This week, we started slowly by getting
to know each other, we talked
about our class routines and reviewed some French
expressions.
ELA
We
are currently writing super short 5 sentence summer stories. We are
reviewing plot and complex sentence structure, and will soon illustrate our
short stories. Please read 20 minutes in English each day for
homework. Students will only have other
homework in ELA, on occasion, when preparing for oral presentations etc.

MATH
Welcome to David Thompson grade 5s!
This week, we talked about our class routines and expectations.
The students received their school
supplies and will receive their Math textbook next week. To
protect the book from being damaged,
the students are expected to have it covered. You can use any kind
of paper such as wrapping paper,
newspaper or even purchase a book sock (usually available at
Staples).
We also watched a short video that generated good conversations
about the importance of asking
questions when we don’t understand and reaching out for help in
Math. Here is the link:

SCIENCE
I had a great week getting to know the grade 5 students and am
excited for spending the next year
together. Our first unit will be Wetlands and we will learn the
importance of wetlands in Alberta and
learn about some species that live in the wetlands. This week, the
students started working on their
title page.

SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies, we went over the course outline and started
working on filing a map of Canada by
adding the names of the provinces and territories, the capitals,
the countries that share our borders,
oceans, lakes and rivers. We will continue in class next
week.
