December 1-6

Dear Parents,
Please note that we now have a coat rack for the students in 5-1 in the hallway just outside of their lockers. They can leave their winter gear and boots if there is no room in their locker. The hallway is supervised during nutrition break and lunch time, however there is no active supervision during class time. If you give you child the permission to leave their clothes on the rack, please remind them to never leave any valuables in their pockets. Thank you!

Science:
We had the chance to have meteorologist Jordan Witzel from Global come and speak to our students on Tuesday afternoon. We learned about how to forecast weather and about climate change. Thank you for your time Mr. Witzel!

Scholastics will be coming home on Monday. Those of you who want to make a purchase have to do it through scholastic.ca/canadaclubs
Parents pick a free book (worth $7 or less) when you spend $30 or more online. Coupon Code: CLIFFORD.

Thank you,
Mme Richard

ELA:
Students have started their final project for Bridge to Terabithia.  We will work on it till Wednesday and watch the movie Thursday and Friday.  Students that are not done project by Thursday, will have to complete it while watching the movie.

Math
Every Thursday at lunch, I am offering tutoring in Math with the help of 4 grade 8 students. I make small groups of grade 5 students based on their needs and they are paired with a grade 8 student. Every week, the groups stay the same. This allows for relationship building between the grade 5s and their tutors. I plan the activities and I closely supervise the work being done. I already have 8 students who committed to joining the tutoring group every Thursday until Christmas.
If you (and your child) are interested in joining this tutoring group, please let me know. I ask that students commit for a minimum of 4 weeks.

The homework this week is on long division. It may be a bit longer than usual, especially the question #2 where students also have to multiply to check their answers. Therefore, it will exceptionally be due on Monday, December 16th. This will be the last homework before the Holidays.
Thank you,
Mme Richard

I am still looking for Christmas lights. I am re-posting this again this week:
As you will soon start decorating your house for Christmas, I would kindly ask that you think of us before throwing out any sets of Christmas lights that you no longer need.  I am already planning our electricity unit that we will start this spring and am in need of small Christmas lights to be used in our electricity project. If you have any old but working sets of small Christmas lights you would be able to donate, please send them to school with your child at your earliest convenience. Thanks in advance for your help. Here is a photo to show the type of lights we are looking for.
Thank you very much!
