Week 7 - Oct. 15-18

Dear Parents,

This winter, the students in 5-1 will be able to leave their winter boots and hang their coats in my class. If you are able to donate a few plastic coat hangers, that would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Math - Mme Richard

This week, we worked on rounding numbers and estimation strategies. The students received their quiz results and have been asked to share them with their parents. The results have been posted on Power School. Please note that my class is always open on Thursday at lunch for extra help in Math. Next week, we will work on addition and subtraction of natural numbers. Here is the homework for next week. It is due on Thursday, October 24.

Science - Mme Richard

We are working on our Wetland creatures. The students are showing their knowledge and understanding of the concepts by writing information about their creature. They will also present to the class during the week of October 28. You can expect our unit test to be at the end of October. I will confirm the date in advance and will provide students with in-class review activities and a study guide.

ELA
Students are continuing to work on fluency while reading aloud.  Please encourage students to do their 20 minutes of reading aloud over the next few weeks to practice.  If students are struggling with fluency, they need an easier book to read. Some key things to practice are:
-accuracy (reading words correctly and not dropping or adding words)
-expression (creating mood and characterization)
-rate & clarity (not too fast and not too slow)
-attention to detail (responding appropriately to periods, commas, bold words etc.)

FLA - Turcotte

This week, we started our second writing assignment. It is related to the science curriculum, this is a short, but important task because it counts in 2 subjects.

The song we have to listen this week is Mettre du tape su' ma palette from Bob Bissonnette. you can find the lyrics to study here.

Next Monday, we will do a retake of the verb quiz. To be ready for this quiz, students can make sure they know the ending of -er and -ir verbs. To study, you can also use this website, you can clic "Par groupe" and 1er groupe (-er) or 2eme groupe (-ir).  Also, we will continue our animal's text.

Social Studies

This week, students had their Atlantic Region test.  Results are posted on Power School.  We started working on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence lowlands.  We will continue with the same unit throughout the next week.
