Week 9: October 28 - November 1

Please note that Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be on Friday the 8th at 9:00am. On another note, Mr. Ben from the Faculté St-Jean in Edmonton started his first practicum in our Math and Science classes. He will be with us until December 6th. Finally, please note that I will be away all next week to attend a convention in Quebec City and that Ms. Pelle will be my substitute teacher.

Math:
We started working on multiplication tables up to 12x12. It is crucial that students practice at home regularly in order to become very comfortable with mental Math. We also practice in class by explicitly teaching strategies, playing games, using manipulatives, flash cards, etc. When practicing at home, make sure to also learn the corresponding divisions.
Example: 2x4=8, 4x2=8, 8/4=2, 8/2=4
The weekly homework for next week is on multiplication and division. As always, it is due on Thursday.

Science:
We finished our unit on Wetlands. We will have a unit test on Wednesday, November 6th. Students should prepare adequately with their notes and the handouts they were provided this term. Students never have to memorize concepts and definitions by heart in Science. They should be able to explain their understanding in their own words. Here is a guide to help you study.
Our next unit is Weather.

FLA: Turcotte
During this short week in FLA we continued working on The Little Prince, we are now almost done Chapter 2. We also went to the library and pick a French book.

Social Studies
This week, we continued our lessons on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Lowlands.  We will probably finish this chapter next week.

ELA:
We have been working on our summarization skills this week.  We have to first identify key information and put it in a graphic organizer, then take those bullet points, and organize them into the required amount of sentences.
